The 18-year-old Neshaminy High School senior has qualified for a spot in the Top 14, which will be televised live beginning on April 22.
After keeping her “American Idol” fate a secret for the last two months, Middletown teen Catie Turner can now finally blurt out to the world the most exciting news of her life:
She’s made it to the Top 14.
Turner’s accomplishment was revealed at the end of Monday night’s pre-recorded Celebrity Duets episode, in which she sang with pop star Andy Grammer on his “Good to Be Alive (Hallelujah).” Turner, 18, was one of seven of the 12 contestants shown Monday to advance to the live rounds, which begin on April 22. Philadelphia natives Dennis Lorenzo and Michael J. Woodard also advanced.
The judges made Turner wait to learn her fate; she was the last of the seven survivors announced. She responded by tearing up, as she has been shown doing throughout her “Idol” appearances.
The other seven finalists will be revealed in next Monday’s episode.
Turner, who drew raves for her dynamic performance of Blondie’s “Call Me” on Sunday’s episode (a song choice made by her father, Kevin), again earned overwhelming praise from celebrity judges claims, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan on Monday, as well from Grammer himself.
“Oh, she’s so fun,” Grammer said immediately after the performance, which was the first one shown Monday. “Isn’t she amazing?”
Turner, a Neshaminy High School senior, worked the room and played off Grammer like a seasoned professional, impressing the judges with her vocal prowess and exuberant stage presence.
“You are such a natural, Catie,” Perry said. “Obviously, you’re a star because it feels so natural for you to be around other stars. You were doing incredible harmonies. You were kind of like soaring all over the place, and it was such a complement.”
Richie added, “I’m sure you are several people, you are several ages. You are doing things you’re not supposed to know yet … I couldn’t tell you any points, except you killed it.”
Bryan called her an “anomaly, the way you harmonized with a big-time singer like you guys have been on tour all year together. It was amazing.”
